This may be a dumb question, but what EXACTLY defines an aspheric lens? I understand (correct me if i'm wrong) that the lens is "aspheric" meaning it is not from part of a sphere and is usually flatter (right?). But at the same time, you can't just take a flat like 0.25 base curve, throw it into your generator and tell it to make a -1.00 prescription from a 0.25 base curve semifinished lens and deem it aspheric right? So what exactly am I not understanding?
So what really defines an aspheric lens is that the base curve is not equal throughout the lens right? Like the middle might be 2 and the edge might be 1.75 for example?
Last question, if someone handed you a lens and a base clock and a lens and said is this a spherical or aspheric lens, how would you tell?
