Hi everyone. I'm a first time poster who went back into opticianry after working as an opthlamic and optometric tech for many years. I have been doing opticianry again for about a year and recently got a pair of full rim metal frame glasses with Varilux W3+ Trivex lenses with Prevencia for myself. I was having repeated issues with loose screws in the frame and even had a lens fall out soon after getting the glasses, so I used the old clear nail polish on the screws trick, and put it on the frame warmer to seal the polish in, having no clue it could damage the Prevencia. Although I only put the frame on the warmer about 15 seconds each side (and did not put the lenses directly on the heat), the lenses have crazed, and now I have some lovely spider webs on both lenses, making vision impossible with them. I feel like an idiot. I had no idea heat could damage A/R and had never had an issue with A/R on the warmer before. (At least I only killed my lenses, not a patient's). I have never damaged my glasses in any way before, and I've been wearing them for 20+ years.
My question is, can I completely strip the Prevencia off these Trivex lenses, leaving the lenses intact? I'm not a big fan of the Prevencia anyway. I've found it gets very dirty all the time compared to my other pair of glasses which has Unity Elite and even some of the other antireflective coatings and if I send them back for remake, if I can even get a remake, I'm stuck getting the Prevencia again unless I want to pay for a whole new job per Essilor's policies. My other pair doesn't have the correct Rx in them, so I can't wear those. Does anyone else find Prevencia to be more fragile and/or more prone to dirt and grime? Thanks for any responses.
