Normally where I work we send all high wrap sun glass frames to be edged and assembled at a surfacing lab, but I am wanting to start edging them myself as I have a machine with necessary beveling capability. Is it common for a finishing lab to edge and mount their own high wrap sunglasses or do you find it more advantageous to have a surfacing lab make the lens and edge it with the frame in front of them?
Typically when doing them myself I order 8 base lenses from our surfacing, specifying frame panto, vertex, and wrap, but the opticians warn that the previous lab tech had issues with fish bowl effect or prismatic effect when edging the wrap jobs himself. Again I just want to gather consensus on what most finishing labs are doing with their wrap sunglasses and if it is viable to edge them yourself.
