Custom fitting glasses on delivery?

Hi all,
first of all I hope you'll forgive my poor english but since I am from Italy I am doing my best. Hope this is the right place to post.
I hope you could help me even if my question is not so technical but more an "ethical" one. I work in an a optician shop of my city which is quite big and famous. Plenty of patients/customers.
I work as a shop assistant. I was chosen mainly to advise customers from a "glamour" point of view. The owners is (from what I tought) very qualified in its job, even if I do not like its policy.
He always was very meticoulous in taking measurements and advising the patients in the choice of frames and lenses. Problem is, the business went so good in the last years, and the patients became so much, that he decided the following: after having assembled and standard-aligned each frame, after they are ready, me and my fellow shop assistants are supposed to deliver the glasses to the customers. 90% of the time the owner is busy in the internal lab.
We were told that we must give the patients the glasses and try to perform minor adjustments when needed (example, adjust temples for people who have crooked ears) and only if some major adjustment is required, call him to have it done. If this is the case, he comes and adjust the glasses for the patient.
Now, patients do not seem to complain with that, as long as they know that their needs will be assessed, if needed, by a skilled optician.... But isn't he supposed to do it from the beginning? I haven't already found the guts to tell him that I think this policy to be wrong, because it would seem that I am not willing to adjust a frame while he is busy doing something else. i fear that i'd be fired. But from my pov there is no such things as "minor adjustments", and it is quite frustrating for me to call him in front of the patients when I understand I am not able to make an adjustment.... But that is not my duty!

So question is: do you have shop assistants? Do you let them peform "minor" adjustments when the shop is full of customers and busy doing something else?

excuse me for the question... I am not an optician but i work in the field, and I don't think that this is fair, not for me and not for the customers!
thank you if you'll share your experience with me
P.
