Hello OptiBoarders! I'd like to bring some attention to our group of opticians and supporters in the Northwest.
The Opticians Association of Washington's motto is, "Promoting the professional stature of opticianry through educational opportunities, legislative activity, and national communications."
We are the voice of opticianry in Washington State and influence the whole Northwest region.
1) Educational Opportunities – We hold conventions and provide occasional online venues;
2) Licensure – We PROTECT YOUR LICENSE from legislative attacks by monitoring and quickly acting on possible threats to our state law. WE ARE WELL PAID IN WASHINGTON STATE as a direct result of this legislative activity. By default, ALL employees who work in this profession – Licensed or Unlicensed – monetarily benefit because the OAW exists and pays attention on your behalf;
3) Title Protection – We notify the State about unlicensed individuals who claim to be “Opticians” without a license. In Washington State, “Optician” equals “Licensed Dispensing Optician;”
4) Legislative Updates – We stay abreast of legislative activity that may affect our licensure and share this information at conventions; and
5) Communications – We collect and share pertinent information related to our industry.
OAW was founded on passion from Lloyd Sass who spearheaded the legislative for the political drive for the state Licensure.
We offer education to all opticians in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.

At each convention we have a silent auction Saturday evening. The purpose is to raise funds for education for our members and supporters. We are a non-profit organization and strictly rely on on membership dues and fundraising.
We put together baskets from our donated items and would accept any donated Gift Certificate or auction items. Contact me or the OAW to coordinate.
